Made in His image

Hi everyone!

We went for a lovely "explore walk" this morning with my good friend Cat. As we meandered around, we ended up at the beautiful Prospect Park looking out at the mountains. I am always amazed when I look at the magnitude of God's handiwork, I am humbled at how our biggest, boldest, best efforts at creativity are dwarfed in comparison with His mighty wonders. However, since we are made in His image, we also bear the desire and ability to create things!!!!!
There is almost nothing I enjoy as much as making new things, whether it's a recipe, jewelry, writing a song, or even starting a blog!!! I feel so enthusiastic and energized when I get to make something.
Well, my dear friend Cat is exceptionally very, very, VERY creative!!!!!! After we finished the walk, she taught us to make these little 3X3 books.

She brought in double-sided 12' x 12" pieces of scrapbooking paper. One piece for each of us along with a scoring tool, stickers, Tim Holtz binding tape, and her creative prowess.....Score the paper (don't cut through) in sections of 3", 6" and 9" - (sorry i was too busy scoring to take a picture) Johnny said, "so we're counting by three's????" oh, I do LOVE that boy!!!!

Then give the paper 1/4 turn and score at the  same intervals so your 12x12 paper is divided into a grid of 3"squares.
Fold the two ends into the middle and then fold the middle back so you've made an accordion, an "M" with the whole thing-

then do a 1/4 turn and
In the very center fold, cut all the way down your crease to the final fold -

Then turn the paper 180 degrees and cut the outer two edges the same way- the paper should not be cut all the way through anywhere, but should pull apart to look like an "M" again.
Starting at the Left edge fold the squares over (forward) and under to the top of each row, then flip under the next row and continue folding until it's all folded in one 3"square.
Open up the first two folds and glue or use this fancy tape machine to stick them together...then glue the folded piece over the next square to make a three-thick front to your book.

Do the same thing for the back cover.

Now comes the fun part!!!!!! Use fun tape- we used Tim Holtz's scrap booking tape- soooo cool! to bind up the spine of your book and all the tops and bottoms of each page.
If you only tape the tops and bottoms of each page, you can use the three "side-pockets" to stuff little notes in...
See Woody peeking out from Johnny's book??? ohnny filled his with Toy Story stickers!!!so fun!!!!

This one is Mary's all closed and tied up! ALL FLOWERS!!!!!

Everyone had fun creating these little books and we hope you will too!!!!!
Many thanks to  Cat for sharing her expertise, and much praise to the One who gave us the desire and ability to be creative!!!!!!

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else......God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us." from Acts 17.

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities— his eternal power and divine nature— have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
Romans 1:20

  1. Tonya, You are amazing!!! I love your new creation - I started a blog a while back, but am too embarrassed to share because I don't have time to post most of the time. It's just a great idea, I love it. Maybe I'll have a bit more time this summer to learn it better too. You go girl!!! I love your style and enthusiasm ❤
